… you have more than one colander? Yes, that too.
As a Sichuan cook, I find I need more than the disintegrating blue plastic colander I’ve had since 1989 when I didn’t even do cooking. Last year I got a shiny blue enamel one with legs, but that was of course far too beautiful to be used for mere straining. I use it only for decoratively holding aubergines.
But last week I found the perfect colander. I was in CitySuper looking for a tea strainer when I saw this apparition:
which I immediately saw would turn into this:

Oh! What an addition to my kitchen, aesthetically, practically and emotionally! I grabbed it and floated towards the tills, picking up a tea strainer in mid-flight. One beautiful tea strainer, $15, that would do me! At the till I found they had some kind of technical problem, because the slip for my EPS card said HK$395.00. What, but, er … “Yes,” the check-out girl said, showing me the bottom of the colander. It clearly said $380.
Of course I bought it, and use it every day. It’s the most beautiful utensil I have. And: You know you’ve arrived when you can spend almost $400 on a colander!

oh i so do need one of those! wonder if Shenzhen has the $38 version?
I’m sure it does – if you don’t mind it being covered in cartoons of rabbits, sheep and little girls in frills going “For use the kitchen comfortable reliant cooking merry christmas.”
