North Korea Better Than South Korea

… at least according to this Occupy Wall Street participant, calling for socialism. She seems to be of an age where she should know better, but no, North Korea is the business because people are guaranteed jobs and all workers there are paid a decent wage!

They are guaranteed jobs all right – in the gulag. One would think that after the shiny examples of the Soviet Union, China not long ago, Cuba, North Korea, Vietnam etc etc that people would have kind of got what socialism is all about by now. But no, it’s capitalism that creates unemployment, hunger and decay, according to the deluded Wall Street ‘trying to recreate the sixties’ mob.

Apropos China; two days ago I posted a comment about poor Wang Yueyue, the Chinese two-year-old crushed three times by two different vehicles, and said one reason for people’s apathy/cruelty was 60 years of Communism.

A geezer calling himself Al Anon sneered an answer to that this morning, saying I was singing for my supper for “you know whom” in “dumping on” China. No, Al, I really don’t know whom?

Al thinks that because I live in Hong Kong, I shouldn’t be allowed to criticise China for creating a populous that blithely walks past a dying toddler covered in blood. Well Al, I think I should. At least, I will.

Also, I’ve said it before: Before you man up and show your real identity in your snide comments, they will not be published. I don’t do anonymity.

  1. Do you find it ironic that the baby-faced, nail-biting, apparently unemployed guy is carrying a copy of Workers Daily? These people are pathetic.

  2. Anna says:

On the other hand; are those people really that uneducated to not know the difference between socialism and dictatorship? Or are they just taking extreme examples to prove their point (then this one is highly unfortunately chosen..).
Socialism is practiced in e.g. Europe and gives people(of all kinds; not just the upper class) more freedom to live their lives in a more fulfilled way (not worrying about what happens if unemployed or suddenly fallen ill ; safety net in place). However, communism on the other hand is an utopian idea used by many power hungry people to seize resources and do the exact opposite to what is promised by communism; the equality and freedom of the ‘working class’ (Rawlianism?). What is practiced in North Korea is pure dicatorship(see the company covers to enrich the regime from trade with the outside world, in the meanwhile keeping hate for the ‘capitalist pigs’ of the ordinary people alive by brainwashing, killing people in gulags…). Too bad people still use this example in such an ignorant manner!

Apparently so. They don’t realise what socialism really means. You think ‘security’, I think ‘government rules your life and takes away your ability to choose’. Socialism means that the states owns everything and takes away the incentive from individuals to create value. Socialism makes people so stupid that they can stand on a street corner in front of a camera and say that the North Korean system really works.

  3. Anna says:

Cecilie, I understand your point of view. Many people think like that and they do have a base for it(in overall, there is a bigger risk of social control). But the disctinction I make between socialism and communism/ dictatorship is not for nothing. If you haven’t lived in a country where the socialist system has been subtly built into a well oiled machinery e.g. in the social security respect and, most importantly I think, If you haven’t have a person in the familiy who is severly (mentally) disabled for life, it is hard to position yourself in the view that socialism is better, albeit it is a work of genious if it actually works. However, now that there are budget cuts on every front, we also in this ‘moderately socialist’ country are holding our breath to see what the results will be.

    • cecilie says:

Yes, I’m from Norway, so I know what I’m talking about. And by definition (Lenin, Marx) socialism is the last step before communism. I understand your plight but don’t think it’s the state’s responsibility to take care of people. Whoever pays your bills owns you.

  4. Anna says:

Well, I clearly disagree on that one. But that’s purely because I wouldn’t have the life I would have now ( and possibly would end up in asylum as well) if I would have that, logical practical and normally very sensemaking motto of ‘whoever pays your bills owns you’ . I choose to be an ignorant socialist living on taxmoney of others(and letting others pay for the professional care of the family member) and believing I’m not being brainwashed at state university ;)

(Sorry if the previous post sounds like a pathetic plea, it was not meant like that actually. I did not have this opinion previously but changed my mind after I realized how lucky I am in overall now…but maybe that’s the drug of socialism? )

  5. Nicolas Krebs says:

I have not seen the video, but I trust you cecilie: At least one member of the Occupy Wall Street movement believe that North Korea is better than South Korea. And I tell you: At least one member of the CounterJihad movement believe that killing teenagers is better than sit-in in front of the parliament.

    • cecilie says:

OK, so shall I go out on a limb here and attempt the incredible leap that you just did? Because only ONE “member” of the “counter jihad movement” (I wish there was one) thinks that killing teenagers is the way to do it, therefore only ONE member of the tent sleepers is a total idiot who thinks socialism is good. Right?
I think it’s time to stop dragging in the mass murderer Breivik every time we discuss political views. Especially when he has nothing to do with what we’re talking about.

  6. Nicolas Krebs says:

“only ONE “member” of the “counter jihad movement” (I wish there was one) thinks that killing teenagers is the way to do it”

    Only one? Evidence?

“I think it’s time to stop dragging in the mass murderer Breivik every time we discuss political views. Especially when he has nothing to do with what we’re talking about.”

Well, at least one man in New York claiming that North Korea is better than South Korea, this is frightening. But at least one man in European cities killing and wounding more that 150 people, this is much more frightening. And Anders Behring Breivik is very relevant when we discuss political views of… well, people claiming that “ethnic Norwegians will soon be outnumbered by foreigners of Muslim descent” and are curently victim of ethnic cleansing.

    • cecilie says:

And so it goes on. I could ask “evidence”? when you say that only one of the OWS-ers calling for socialism and waving pictures of another famous murderer, Che Guevara, thinks North Korea is better than South Korea (incidentally it was a woman who said it, but of course you don’t have to actually watch the video to know what you’re talking about) but I won’t. I strongly suspect there are more, but have only video evidence of this one.

However, there are many, many of the Occupy This and That-ers who are calling for socialism, thinking it is better than the system we have now – you know, the system which allows them to camp out for weeks in the middle of cities instead of, oh, I don’t know, working. Under socialism I think they would be rather more busy trying to survive. That was what my blog post was about. Not Breivik. Okay? But seeing you didn’t have time to watch the video, you probably didn’t have time to read the blog post either.

“you say that only one of the OWS-ers calling for socialism and waving pictures of another famous murderer, Che Guevara, thinks North Korea is better than South Korea”

        I don’t and didn’t say that.

“I strongly suspect there are more”

        Mee too.

And I strongly suspect there are more than one member of the CounterJihad movement who believe that sit-in in front of an european parliament is not suffient to move Europe away from its dark prophetized future (and present).

“However, there are many, many of the Occupy This and That-ers who are calling for socialism”

I don’t know what they mean by “socialism”. Maybe they want Switzerland?

“That was what my blog post was about. Not Breivik. Okay?”

Okay. See you later in gatesofvienna or tundratabloids. Or in another “lone wolf” manifesto…
