Trudging On

My project “Walking around Hong Kong Island staying near or as close as possible to the water” continues. What, it’s been three months or whatever since my last entry? Yes, because this year has had the worst weather EVER! Well. As long as I’ve lived here, which is a damned long time.

This walk has taught me many things. For example: If you want to find a map of Hong Kong: Good luck with that! I had one initially that showed HK Island in its entirety but gave it to a person who looked lost. Since then I’ve tried four different maps (available from bookshops and news agents) and they are all CRAP.

The latest installment but one on my walk was Deep Water Bay to Stanley. My map showed HK Island as far as Repulse Bay – nothing else. Naturally, or idiotically, or, no, I’ll say it again, because my quest is to stay near the water at all times, faithfully, I stayed near the water. So I kept walking past the posher sections of HK Island

and suddenly I found myself in Middle Earth

soon after which the road ground to a halt. Around South Bay. If only I hadn’t given my first map away! Repulse Bay to Stanley doesn’t follow the water at all. And the tourist maps all, not unlike the road, grind to a halt at Repulse Bay. I got A LOT of exercise out of it though. A lot.

Come on, Tourist Association! Can you for one second imagine that people – some people at least – want to step outside of Central – Aberdeen – Ocean Park – Back to Central?

The quest, however, continues. I will never give up.
